2 Samuel

Chapter 7 of 2 Samuel is where the Lord gives His promise to David to establish David's throne forever. God has been faithful to His word. Our Lord Jesus Christ, a descendant of the line of David by both His father and mother is now reigning on David's throne from Heaven! David's prayer is a beautiful passage of praise and glory given to the Sovereign LORD! In chapter 9 the account of David showing kindness and honor to the disabled grandson of Saul demonstrates the mercy David had toward the weak. This is the heart of our Lord Jesus. He showed great compassion upon the weak, despised and disabled in His time. God calls each of us to honor the parts of the Body of Christ that seem to lack honor (1 Corinthians 12).
I also love to find the humor in some of the accounts in the Bible. For example in 2 Samuel 14:25-26 is speaks of one of David's sons having to cut his hair "from time to time when it became too heavy for him" :) The footnotes in my Bible say that the weight would have been about 5 pounds! now that is a lot of hair to cut!! Chapter 22 of 2 Samuel is almost identical with Psalm 18. I love the word picture that David paints about the Lord delivering him when he was in distress. It first uses the picture of God when He is angry at the mistreatment of His people and uses the imagery of the earth and heavens making way for the Lord to come down to perform a miraculous rescue. Then it says, "He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters... He rescued me because He delighted in me." Can you imagine that! God rescued me from my trials because HE DELIGHTED IN ME!!! Our God is truly a wonderful God! In Chapter 23, verse 5 David speaks about Christ bringing salvation to the elect. God will bring to fruition David's salvation with the coming of Christ. Now we can look back at see the faithfulness of God is working out His plan of salvation for all eternity.
